AI Calling

AI calling is the use of artificial intelligence to conduct real phone conversations autonomously — without a human on the line. An AI voice agent places outbound calls, speaks naturally with the prospect, responds dynamically, qualifies interest, and either transfers warm leads or logs the outcome.
Three layers: automatic speech recognition (Deepgram) converts voice to text in real time, a large language model processes the text and determines the response, and text-to-speech (ElevenLabs) converts the response back to natural audio. This cycle completes in under half a second.
Robocalling plays a pre-recorded message to every call with no ability to respond. AI calling listens, understands, and responds dynamically in real time — if the prospect asks a question, the AI answers; if they object, the AI responds appropriately.
Primary B2B use case: outbound lead qualification at scale. The AI works through a contact list, identifies responsive and interested prospects, and surfaces them for human follow-up. Also used for appointment setting, lead re-engagement, and post-purchase check-ins.
When a call connects, the AI detects within the first second or two whether a human or answering machine answered. On voicemail detection: silently hang up (saving credits) or leave a pre-recorded voicemail drop message.
When a prospect shows buying intent, the AI immediately bridges the call to a live sales rep without hanging up. The prospect goes from AI to human in seconds while interest is at its peak.
BYOC platforms like TaskFirst let you connect your existing SIP provider (Twilio, SignalWire, VoIP.ms) and use your own phone numbers — no carrier markup, no phone number lock-in, full compliance control.
Outbound AI calling to businesses for commercial sales purposes is generally legal under US federal law. Calling consumers is more heavily regulated under TCPA. You are responsible for compliance.
